Help! I try to send a test email to different email providers but not receive.

If you are facing the problem above, do not worry. Keep on reading to get some guidelines to solve this problem.

Firstly, you would need to know the reason why that any particular email provider has not received your email. Unfortunately, the only reason is that they have blacklisted your IP. What to do when your email is undelivered?

Have you encountered the problem where your friend or colleague tells you that he or she did not receive an email that you sent? When this happens, you need to take a few steps to identify the reason for this. So let’s start by trying to figure this out.

Typically, if the problem is on your end then you’ll get an email notifying you about the undelivered email. These emails are typically hard to interpret. However, hold onto this email since it often includes helpful clues about the delivery problem.

There are two modes of the delivery problem which are either temporary or permanent.

If it’s permanent, you should show this email to your IT person so he or she can interpret it for you. The possible reason is that it is just as simple as you included a typo in the recipient’s email address. Or also perhaps your mail server has been blacklisted. If the problem is temporary, then you should wait a few more hours to see if you are able to successfully send out the email. If your email isn’t bounced back to you, then the problem is on the recipient’s end.

Solutions

You may not solve the problem on your own but there are some suggestions that you can make to the recipient.

  • Firstly, ask the recipient to check his or her junk folder to see if your email was in it. This makes your email does not appear in his or her Inbox.
  • Secondly, ask the recipient to add your email address to his or her whitelist.
  • Lastly, ask the recipient to contact his or her IT person. The IT person can further investigate spam filters and/or firewalls. They are able to see if the email was spam and thus never delivered.

Moreover, here are some workarounds that you could try until you identify the root cause of the email delivery issue and resolve the problem.

  • Firstly, re-send your original email, but remove any attachments and remove your signature (if you have one).
  • Next, try to send a new test email. You should keep it very short and don’t include any attachments or your signature. Then see if you can send and deliver any emails to the recipient.
  • Also, ask one of your co-workers to try to send an email to the recipient. This is to determine if the recipient can get any emails from your company’s domain name.
  • Lastly, send an email to the recipient from your other email accounts. For example, try your iCloud.com or Outlook.com account.

Still unable to send out the email after doing the steps? Well, you can try to check if the problem is on your end in case you miss out on the possible root cause.

  1. Check the internet connection. Yes, it happens. Therefore, be sure that you’re connected to the internet!
  2. Check the SMTP server details. This is a very common mistake: you have set up your mail client with the wrong SMTP parameters. To find out, please refer to the list of the most common ones or you may ask directly your provider.
  3. Verify all existing usernames and passwords. This is another small mistake that happens often. So, do double-check your login details.
  4. Check the SMTP server connection. Now, this problem is trickier. Why? This is because even if your SMTP details are correct, the server itself can be down or not functioning for some reason. 
  5. Change the SMTP port. The outgoing mail server uses normally port 25. However, some ISPs may block it due to the increasing spam traffic that’s been passing through it. You can use then port 587 or 465.
  6. Control the antivirus or firewall settings. There are some times where an outgoing mail server conflicts with the computer’s protection systems. To verify that your firewall or antivirus is not blocking it, setting up a proper exception rule.
